Sa Wakas 2017 adds two Sugarfree songs to repertoire
For more hugot.
(SPOT.ph) For three weekends in April 2013, PETA Theater Center in Quezon City witnessed back-to-back cryfests courtesy of the Pinoy rock musical Sa Wakas written by Ina Abuan and Andrei Pamintuan. It starts off with “may jacket mong nabubulok sa sulok na inaalikabok na sa lungkot, may panyong ilang ulit nang niluhaan, isang patak sa bawat beses na tayo’y nasaktan.” Yes, it's a musical laden with Sugarfree songs, and who wouldn't to go all-out feels with the lyrics of Ebe Dancel "Broadway-fied" by Ejay Yatco? Fast forward to 2016, and after much clamor, Sa Wakas finally gets a rerun schedule for January 2017 at the Power Mac Center Spotlight in Makati City.
Vic Robinson (as Topper) and Cara Barredo (as Lexi)
The story revolves around Topper, a photographer, who lives with his partner Lexi, a doctor. Like any typical love triangle, the third party is a fun-loving character: Gabbie, a magazine writer. It raises the timeless question of why relationships fall apart.
In a press conference on December 13, Yatco revealed that two Sugarfree songs were changed in the new version of the musical: "Kung Ayaw Mo Na sa Akin" and "Huling Gabi," in place of "Dramachine" and "Hintay." The musical director also added that there will be live violins for Sa Wakas 2.0. "We're also having live strings now. On the first run, we used synthesizers. Ngayon naisip ko to add to the hugot, mas maganda live siya e," he explained.
Maronne Cruz (as Gabbi), Cara Barredo (as Lexi), and Caisa Borromeo (as Lexi)
Andrei Pamintuan (co-writer) and Charissa Pamit (producer)
When asked why there was a need to edit the script, co-writer Pamintuan said that they "felt that some of the characters weren't fully fleshed it out." This was considering that the first run only spared them six months from conceptualization to staging. "It was a chance for us to flesh out characters, add scenes and songs that [we] felt expanded the story and the backgrounds of these characters so that they are more relatable and their issues as people were more real. That only helped with the trajectory of the show," he said about the revision.
Returning for the rerun are Vic Robinson (as Topper), Caisa Borromeo (as Lexi), and Justine Peña (as Gabbi). New additions to the cast are Pepe Herrera (as Topper), Cara Barredo (as Lexi), and Maronne Cruz (as Gabbi).
Sa Wakas runs from January 12 to February 12, 2017 at Power Mac Center Spotlight, Circuit Lane, Circuit Makati, Makati City. Tickets, priced from P700 to P1,500, are available through the Sa Wakas website.
