PETA's Musical About Fake News and Online Trolls Is Back

Sounds familiar?

( In this age of social media and the Internet, anyone and everyone is a content producer. Sure, it's a big plus in promoting freedom of expression and making information more available to the masses. But the downside to all these is that rumor mongering happens in an instant. An army of online trolls can easily make or break a person and revise a fact—even something as bloody as Martial Law. Enter A Game of Trolls, PETA's hit musical that's now having a rerun on September 1 to 30.

A Game of Trolls is written by Liza Magtoto and directed by Maribel Legarda, the same tandem that produced Rak of Aegis. It follows Hector, a keyboard warrior and manager of a "call center" that runs a pro-Martial Law campaign through the Internet. Because he doesn't have his own stand on the issue, it's easy for him to heckle anyone who says the opposite of what he's posting online. He later encounters the ghosts of Martial Law victims, forcing him to reflect on his own beliefs and his mother, a former Martial Law activist.

Sounds familiar? Well, it's just a play but we all know how true-to-life it is.

A Game of Trolls runs from September 1 to 30 at PETA Theater Center, 5 Eymard Drive, New Manila, Quezon City. For ticket inquiries and reservations, contact 725-6244 or 0917-503-1006.
