(SPOT.ph) When we first found out that The Lion King, a musical based on the 1994 Disney animated film of the same name, would be coming to Manila, our '90s selves couldn't help but sing "Hakuna matata" (Sorry for giving you LSS). After all, it takes us back to that time when we actually had to go to the cinema to watch a movie, or buy a cassette tape of the soundtrack. What makes it even more exciting is that the Philippines is the first country that the international cast is visiting. It is slated to premiere on March 18, 2018 at The Theatre at Solaire in Parañaque City.
The world-class cast features The Lion King alumni who have performed in previous productions of the musical, including London, Las Vegas, Shanghai, Basel, Hamburg, and a few others; as well as those who have participated in the U.K. and Australian tours. Joining the foreign crew are six of our very own talented young actors: Julien Joshua Dolor, Pablo Palacpac, and Juan Tiongson who will alternate for the role of Young Simba; and Sheena Bentoy, Uma Martin, and Felicity Napuli who will alternate for the role of Young Nala.

The Lion King musical debuted in Minnesota on July 8, 1997 before it premiered on Broadway in the same year. After the Manila leg, the international tour—presented by Michael Cassel Group in association with Disney Theatrical Productions—is set to run in Singapore in June 2018, Korea in October 2018, Taiwan in 2019, and South Africa in 2020.
The Lion King opens on March 18, 2018 at The Theatre at Solaire, Solaire Resort and Casino, 1 Aseana Avenue, Parañaque City. Tickets are available through Ticketworld starting on November 3, 2017. For updates, follow Concertus Manila on Facebook.
