'90s Kids, Tabing Ilog Is Now a Musical
Sa ilog ang mundo'y tahimik...
(SPOT.ph) Without the wide range of TV and movie choices that Netflix now offers, the television experience of every '90s kids is pretty much the same—especially if you don't have cable. Our toddler years were spent with Kuya Bodjie and Pong Pagong from Batibot, we reviewed our kindergarten lessons through ATBP, the next formative years were spent watching Sineskwela, Hirayamanawari, and Bayani. By the time we were old enough to think about crushes, Tabing Ilog was there every Sunday. And now, this teen drama series that aired from 1999 to 2003 on ABS-CBN makes a comeback as a musical.
A poster was released by the new Facebook page Tabing Ilog The Musical on January 23 at 8 p.m. Not much was revealed, except that the musical will be shown in 2020. We have yet to find out if it's a movie musical or a live one—or maybe even a TV musical like Glee.
Tabing Ilog followed the friendship of Anne (Paula Peralejo), Eds (Kaye Abad), Badong (Paolo Contis), James (Patrick Garcia), Rovic (John Lloyd Cruz), Fonzy (Baron Geisler), Corrine (Desiree del Valle), and George (Jodi Sta. Maria)—who each had their share of family issues, love interests, and other teenage struggles. Familiar names that rounded up the cast were Carol Banawa, Camille Prats, Juddha Paolo, Paolo Paraiso, Mylene Dizon, Rica Peralejo, Angel Aquino, Susan Africa, and Pen Medina. It is yet to be known whether the musical adaptation is a retelling of the original narrative or a sequel.
For now, we'll be stuck humming the theme song by Barbie Almalbis in our head (or out loud) and binge-watching the original on iWant.
