Lin-Manuel Miranda's Hamilton Is Streaming Soon

For countries with Disney+.

( Hamilton: The American Musical has it all: themes on affecting change and taking action, rap and hip-hop, diverse casting, and an inspiring story about a "bastard, orphan, son of a whore" who grows up to be "a hero and a scholar." So it doesn't come as a surprise that almost every corner of the globe is hoping to see this award-winning musical. And it looks like people's wishes are coming true as creator Lin-Manuel Miranda announced on Tuesday night, May 12, that the award-winning musical is streaming exclusively on Disney+ on July 3.


The musical was inspired by Ron Chernow's biography titled Alexander Hamilton, which was published in 2004. It premiered Off-Broadway at The Public Theater in February 2015; then went on to win 11 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, after its Broadway debut at the Richard Rodgers Theater in August 2015. Miranda also bagged a Pulitzer Prize for Drama, while he and the rest of his musical team won the Grammy Awards for Best Musical Theater Album. The filmed performance, which was initially announced for a commercial release in October 2021, features the Broadway staging at Richard Rodgers Theatre in June 2016.

The Disney+ release is just in time for the United States' celebration of Independence Day on July 4. "I’m so grateful to Disney and Disney+ for reimagining and moving up our release to July 4th weekend of this year, in light of the world turning upside down. I’m so grateful to all the fans who asked for this, and I’m so glad that we’re able to make it happen. I’m so proud of this show. I can’t wait for you to see it," Miranda added.

Streaming service Disney+ was rolled out in the U.S., Canada, and the Netherlands on November 12, 2019. It was later launched in Australia, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Austria, United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, Germany, Ireland, and Switzerland. Eastern Europe and Latin America are expected to get their hands on the platform after October 2020. India is the first country to get Disney+ through Hotstar on April 3.  No announcements have yet been made about when Disney+ will be available in the Philippines.
