(SPOT.ph) Most of us know about the annual Manila International Book Fair held every September, where publishing giants in the Philippines sell their goods in carefully organized booths and stalls at Mall of Asia's SMX Convention Center. But a small press expo is now attracting a lot of attention, too.
Born in 2010, Better Living Through Xeroxography (a.k.a. BLTX) is a convention of independent publishers and self-publishing authors where poetry chapbooks, novellas, zines, comics, art prints, postcards, and stickers are sold at affordable prices. It's held at least twice a year in various parts of Metro Manila and even in Baguio, Naga, and Cagayan de Oro. This year's edition is scheduled on December 8 at Cubao Expo in Quezon City.
Booths open at 5 p.m., but you can come as early as 3 p.m. to listen to a forum on how independent presses can change the world (or at least the publishing industry). This small talk will be held at Studio Soup Zine Library. Participating writers’ group and publishers include the Cavite Young Writers Association, Gantala Press, High Chair, Balangay Books, Komiks Sundays, Kowtow Komiks, The Cabinet, UP Writers Club, White Wall Poetry, and many more.
Better Living Through Xeroxography is on December 8, 5 p.m., at Cubao Expo, Gen. Romulo Avenue, Araneta Center, Cubao, Quezon City. For more information, follow BLTX Yr 8: Cubao BLTXpo's Facebook page.
