WATCH: 20-Year-Old Student Makes Miniature Paintings on Used Tea Bags
He learned how to paint just by watching clips on YouTube.
(SPOT.ph) Being stuck at home has brought out the artistic side in some of us. There are those who've been drawing portraits using metallic pens, and others who surprised us by using ketchup as art material. Kahrem Melchor, a 20-year-old student taking up Financial Management and Accounting in Pangasinan, makes use of his time by learning how to paint through YouTube. He's also taking things further by drawing on canvases smaller than a hand or even on a used tea bag.
"Naisipan ko mag-paint ng miniature paintings para naman po maiba. Para hindi lang puro malalaki [na paintings]. Gusto ko patunayan na kahit sa maliliit na bagay ay may makikita tayong art," Melchor says in an interview with Summit Media.
The 20-year-old takes inspiration from the works of Vincent van Gogh, which he recreates on a 2 x 3-inch canvas. One painting takes him three hours to finish because of the attention to detail needed in making the piece. He also paints original works.
"Sa mga tao naman na mahilig talaga o passion itong arts, pursue what you love, practice lang po nang practice. Slow progress is still progress," he suggests to artists like him.
