( Korean barbecue fans have been hightailing it to Greenbelt 5’s newest restaurant, Bulgogi Brothers, the first international outlet of the Korean franchise outside South Korea. The Makati outpost is a cozy, modern space serving familiar Korean chow: bulgogi, a selection of spicy stew bowls, traditional noodles like the Janchi-Guksu, and a wide selection of soju, wine, beer and tea.

It’s easy to understand why Korean food newbies and non-kimchi fans like it here, if only for their Un-yang Style Bulgogi (P595). The tasty meat owes its subtle sweetness to the pear and peach marinade used to pack flavor into the heart-shaped patties . After a few minutes on the table-top grill, the charred barbecue meat instantly offers a faint, fruity sweetness at first bite.

The Bulgogi Brothers’ complimentary Spinach Salad, with its signature sweet and spicy sauce, is something you might actually end up going back for: its flavors emerge and play on the tongue when you bite into the fresh, crunchy veggies. The traditional Japchae gets more color with big slices of bell peppers and rice cakes mixed with glass noodles and tender, seasoned beef. Other must-tries include the Sogogi Songi Bokkeum (P395), stir-fried beef with mushrooms; the Kimchi-jjigae Kimchi Stew (P395); and the Tofu Steak (P245 for 6 pieces).
