(SPOT.ph) Perhaps the hardest thing to do when on a diet is to eat out. Sure you can eat a salad, but shouldn't there be more? After all, a diet isn't a punishment. It's an opportunity. Yellow Halo was one such opportunity we couldn't pass up.
Every menu item in Yellow Halo is below 500 calories. Their chef, Raydel Mascariñas, tells us that the body's recommended calorie intake per day is 1500 calories. "So if you eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner here," she points out, "you would still have room for snacks." The menu is a rich selection of food, from pasta, sandwiches, seafood and chicken. Each item is classified according to your dietary needs, plus there are dishes that are low-fat, high-fiber, and have a low glycemic index. "It's all about the ratio," Chef Raydel tells us. "Each plate has a very specific ratio of fruits, rice, vegetables, proteins and grains."
We started off with the Watermelon Basil shake (P65). It had just the right amount of sweetness, and at 100 calories, we were sold! The Citrus and Pear Salad (P130) was refreshing and sweet. The balsamic dressing played well against the salad greens and fruits too. Our favorite of the bunch has to be the Tomato, Basil and Cottage Cheese Sandwich (P90). For a sandwich, it really knew how to pack a punch.
Finally, we tried one of their bestselling dishes, the Balsamic Chicken (P210). The high fiber plate had a sizeable portion of chicken, brown rice, veggies and fruits. Who knew eating healthy could taste like this? One dish we can't wait to try next time is part owner Maxene Magalona's favorite, the Tuna Whole Wheat Pasta (P150). Only 290 calories!
