New Promo Alert: Mandarin Oriental’s Wine and Tapas Feast

Mandarin Oriental Manila caps each month with a celebratory toast to good wine and tapas.

(SPOT.ph) Mandarin Oriental Manila's Wines & Tapas dinner started in 2012 as a one-off, then again in February this year. But the feedback has been so overwhelming that they decided to hold it every month, the last Friday of each month, to be exact. "It became very evident that people liked the concept and our wine suppliers also saw how it represented their wines in a favorable way," explains Peter Pysk, Director of the Food and Beverage Department. "We were fully booked each month this year so far and the event has evolved into being about more than just food and wine."

For one night a month, the hotel offers food and wine from a single country to show how such a pairing can be a satisfying experience. Last June's French-themed night had Sommelier Selection pouring French viognier in the customers' glasses and matching it with a fine selection of cheeses and traditional pastries. "Most people would not choose a viognier from the wine list as it is a grape very few people in this region know or are comfortable selecting for dinner," claims Peter. "But on that night, it was the standout hit! It was by far the most consumed wine with amazing feedback from our guests." Consequently, the event becomes one healthy collaboration as guests get to try a wine that they otherwise might not have and Mandarin Oriental gets to present a delicious and delectable spread showcasing the hotel kitchen's capabilities, making for an intimate and relaxed night, perfect for unwinding and catching up with friends after a busy work week.

For the Wine & Tapas dinner set on August 30, Argentina will take centerstage with Faina (Garbanzo Flatbread), Ensalada Chilena (Onion-Tomato Salad), Locro de Argentina (Bean and Corn Soup), Carbonada Criolla (Argentinian Beef Stew), Costillar de Chancho (Baked Pork Spare Ribs), Torta Negra Galesa (Patagonian Black Welsh Cake) and Argentinian wines like Finca Malbec Merlot, Altas Cabernet Sauvignon, and Finca Sauvignon Blanc, all from Lagarde, headlining the menu. Certainly, food and wine this good is more than enough excuse to eat, drink and be merry!
