10+ Great Foodie Gifts According to Your Budget

Food gifts-and more-that will make someone happy this Christmas.

(SPOT.ph) Kitchens have never been as active as they’ve been this year. Apart from a looong list of new restaurants, many home-based cooks and bakers have also entered the food scene, impressing customers with their innovation and spot-on flavors of everything from paella to roasted meats to cupcakes. The year is about to end, and I can only hope to see this much culinary creativity in 2014. But before that happens, I want to share with you some of my favorite finds-some old, some new, some aren’t even food! These wallet-friendly, gift-worthy discoveries have my stamp of approval for guaranteeing satisfaction. All of them are beautifully packaged, ready to be tagged and given away as holiday presents-for friends or for yourself!

Apple Pie Pops (P50) by The Silly Goose Gourmet

Cake pops are so two years ago. When "pie pops" emerged early this year, Silly Goose was quick to pick up on it locally. They have three kinds: Lemon Curd Pie, Chocolate Cranberry Walnut Pie, and my personal pick, Apple Pie. Each pop will set you back for only P50, but the mouthwatering pastries look like they’re worth more than that.

Arnold Bernardo’s latest creation, however, is an ingenious line of bagoong laced with a variety of mostly local flavors. There’s one with chocolate that will give a whole new dimension to kare-kare and pork binagoongan. Another jar is spiked with tamarind, perfect to season fried fish.

Toss some seafood cream or a caper-laced, oil-based sauce over it, and you have a Christmas feast.

Artichoke and White Truffle Sauce (P679) from Italy

My good friend Bea loves to travel the world and she always snags amazing food finds from the countries she visits. During her recent trip to Italy, she found a lot of truffle-infused items. The honey with black truffle pairs well with cheese, while the artichoke truffle sauce (in photo) can serve as a dip, spread, or pasta sauce.

Ham Set (P975) from Wildflour

*This deserves special mention because it’s my ultimate favorite.

It’s called Luke's Favorite on the Wildflour menu, but in reality, it’s everyone’s favorite. The set is composed of a vacuum-packed one-kilo WF ham bacon, a bottle of pineapple jam, and a bag of homemade rolls. For Christmas, I wish I’d receive more of this than what I give. Hint, hint!

Available only at Wildflour, Bonifacio Global City branch; orders must be placed a day in advance. Contact 856-7600.
