(SPOT.ph) Apart from the torrential rains and ghost month, there’s one other thing to look forward to in August. If Chinese New Year is about tikoy (among a great many other things), then this month is about the Mid-Autumn Festival: mooncakes-a light and flaky crust enveloping a dense, sweet filling usually made of lotus seed or sweet bean paste. In the center, a whole salted egg yolk, symbolizing the four phases of the moon.

Scratch that. Makati Shangri-La is giving us 10 new reasons to have mooncake, to last us from August to September. The hotel’s kitchen has come up with some bold new flavors to shake up the yearly tradition.

Amid the usual suspects of red bean, mixed nuts, and white lotus seeds, sink your teeth into unconventional flavors like coffee, custard, green tea, wintermelon, chocolate truffle, and even durian. The mooncakes are available in mini (P438), box of six (P2,130), and box of eight (P2,355). Traditional-sized mooncakes are also available individually (P663), and in a box of four (P2,581) or a box of eight (P4,160).

Early birds who pre-purchase their orders on or before July 31 may avail of a 25% discount. Vouchers can be purchased at the hotel lobby from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
