New Restaurant Alert: Burgers & Brewskies at Burgos Circle, Bonifacio Global City

(SPOT.ph) Brunch at Burgers & Brewskies is called "Hair of the Dog." It’s an allusion to the expression that a hangover could be cured by drinking the same offensive alcohol from the night before. It’s either a remedy or just a sneaky excuse to indulge more. B&B’s (non-alcoholic) brunch menu does both.

Walk of Shame

It’s made up of nine dishes that, like the original menu, doesn’t hold back in presentation and flavor. The Walk of Shame (P340) isn’t as fancy as B&B’s famous Call the Nurse, which has seared mac ’n’ cheese, or the Cloud, with its balsamic-glazed shiitake mushrooms, but it does have flamboyance. The top bun is upside-down to cup a jiggly baked egg. It caps the juicy signature burger patty, crispy bacon, and a generous slag of cheese sauce. Enjoy it with the spiced potato hay and delicious lemonnaise.

Sinwich

The Sinwich (P220) is their version of a grilled-cheese sandwich. It piles so much stuff in between toasted bread that it almost seems wrong: thinly sliced Granny Smith apples, crisp honeycured bacon strips, cheddar cheese and onion confit fill up the sandwich to its bursting seams, then beer-battered and potato chip- encrusted before being fried. It’s a crunchy manwich sweetened with a light drizzle of honey.

If any traditional grilled-cheese sandwich pairs well with tomato soup, then it follows that an unconventional version would require an unconventional complement. The Smoky Tomato Zucchini Soup (P250) is rich and robust, with the natural tanginess of tomato pacified by the wood-smoked flavor. It’s warm, smooth, and hearty. The BLT it comes with has been B&B-fied in the form of bacon aioli, chicharon-crusted tomatoes, shredded lettuce, and crisp, fried chicken skin.

The Steak and Drunken Egg (P300) has sliced chimichurri-marinated hanger steak cooked to medium rare, paired with a red-wine poached egg and roasted garlic sauce on crostini.

The restaurant always puts whimsy on the plate and their adaptation of the potato hash is no exception. The Home Fries and Fluffy Egg (P250) has chunks of tender potatoes, Vigan longganisa, and sliced bell peppers getting a lovely char from the hot cast-iron skillet they were cooked in. Beside the mound of hash is a baked cloud of egg white, which acts as nest to the yolk.

Queso de Bola French Toast

Three types of French toast fight for your preference on the menu: one jammed with cream cheese and strawberries tossed in balsamic vinegar and basil; and another with creamy peanut butter and bacon jam. Of the lot, the savory Queso de Bola variant (P200) with garlic cream hits the spot best. You’ll enjoy it even without a hangover.

Burgers & Brewskies also has two new sandwiches: the Bleu Cheese Stuffed Burger a.k.a. Pendong and the Philly Cheese Steak Stuffed Burger with Onions and Peppers.
