New on the Menu: California Pizza Kitchen's Filipino-inspired Dishes + Catering

( California Pizza Kitchen's first International Summit on November 6 showed the kind of diversity the chain has been developing since 1985. Franchise owners from Malaysia, Dubai, India, Japan, Korea, China, and more converged over lunch in the Greenbelt 5 branch in the country which was the brand’s first outpost outside the US.


Through it started in California, CPK has made a name for itself in innovative, globally influenced comfort food. As Rudy Sugueti, senior vice president of franchise development, puts it: "30% (of the menu) is signature CPK, 30% is local, and 40% is from other countries."

Spinach Artichoke (P250 to P425)


Mr. Sugueti, also executive director of CPK, stresses localization in their campaigns. Currently, the chain, which is famous for limited-edition promotions and menu additions, has come up with Filipino-tailored dishes that take inspiration from our Spanish heritage. Take for instance, chorizo sprinkled all over the creamiest queso. When spread all over crunchy crostini, it's one terrific introduction to what's next.



Epic Fries (P425): potatoes drizzled with ranch dressing, and topped with Velveeta, sausage, pepperoni, and tortilla strips.


Gambas + Roasted Garlic


The Gambas + Roasted Garlic (P545) is made up of sautéed shrimp, a plethora of garlic, and just that delightful amount of heat. The Breakfast Pizza (P275 to P425) transcends cultures: queso quesadilla and mozzarella create a rich canvas for the sweetish applewood smoked ham brightened by sheets of fresh arugula. This should be a hit in any country.

Korean Beef


If the number of Korean barbecue joints in Manila is enough of an indication, the local palate has warmed up to the flavors of kimchi and gochujang. One of Korea's own concepts, the Korean Beef Pizza (P325 to P575), has been introduced on the menu. Grilled beef slices speckled with sesame seeds are given extra dimension with caramelized onions and a whisper of sriracha. On top, a mountain of vegetables for a bit of crunch.

The new Green Mango Pie (P225) is light, with a tartness that's softer than key lime. It's exceptionally creamy, but pepped up by the tangy fruit with a texture made interesting by a salty cracker crust.


No matter how often they bring in new flavors, CPK can always be counted on for old favorites. Items like the Thai Crunch Salad, Margherita Pizza, BBQ Chicken Pizza, and Spaghetti Marinara continue to draw a loyal crowd, and they're only a few of the items available in CPK's catering menu.

President and CEO of Global Restaurant Concepts Inc. Archie Rodriguez, who recently received a Best Franchise Partner award, welcomes any opportunity to be part of their customers' milestones. CPK catering has options for delivery, takeaway, and even dine-in for their larger branches. There's also a kids' menu, with a package that includes balloons and a birthday banner.


California Pizza Kitchen is all about localization and diversity, but no matter how many revisions they make on the menu, it will always be the place for habit-forming, family-friendly comfort.
