Red Velvet Oreos are Real, But They Don’t Have Chocolate
Will they be available in the Philippines soon?
(SPOT.ph) From "Double Stuf" to Pumpkin Spice, Nabisco knows how to pimp one of their bestselling products: Oreos. The latest flavor is one close to everyone’s hearts-Red Velvet.
But the flavor, which is traditionally cocoa-based with a red hue from either beets or food coloring, is free from chocolate. According to Fox News, these Oreos are instead "red cookies" with cream cheese-flavored filling (the packaging isn’t coy about saying that these Oreos are "artificially flavored"). With the lack of chocolate, the report also described it as a "sugar bomb."
An ABC News report, quoted by Yahoo! News, explained that it was part of Oreo’s campaign to put a twist on popular flavors. "This time around, Oreo saw how much consumers love all things red velvet, so it decided to combine the perfect mix of the chocolate Oreo cookie taste fans love with a cream cheese-flavored crème for those red velvet fanatics," said a company representative.
The Red Velvet Oreos will be available in the U.S. for a limited time in February 2. Though reception to this cookie has been mixed, we hope someone brings it to the Philippines, too.
