BONO’s Mango Ube Symphony Already Wins in Our Book

Our fingers are crossed for our No. 1 Gelato Shop in Manila.

 

(SPOT.ph) Friday the 13th can’t be too bad, because today BONO Gelato’s Mango Ube Symphony is available in all branches. The new signature flavor is a finalist to the Gelato World Tour at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore from March 20 to 22.

 

By reaching the Top 16 in the Asia Pacific division, BONO Gelato bested 40 other challengers from 50 countries. Chef Zarah Manikan will be representing the company.

 

It’s not the most complex of arrangements. The mango and ube are decidedly local, but the execution hides a much deeper depth. A scoop is compact mango gelato backed by nutty ube (nope, not ice cream-the real thing!). BONO also embellishes it with strips (not bits, not shreds, not shavings) of rhum-soaked dried mango, layering a beautiful chewy note as well as another perspective of that famous mango sweetness. It’s an actual symphony on a cone.

 

"This uniquely Filipino pairing is a reflection of the country’s love for sweet desserts since mango and ube are often transformed into delicious cakes, pastries and jams," says Chef Zarah.

 

The results will be announced a week from now, but for capturing that Filipino flavor perfectly, it already gets our vote.

 

The Mango Ube Symphony is priced at P150/single or P250 double.
