(SPOT.ph) Green is in these days. But even though more and more restaurants are joining the revolution, eating healthy can still be a bit, well, inconvenient.
The local Family Mart, with the help of Chef Him Uy de Baron (Nomama, I Am Kim), has come up with its Fresh n’ Lite health and wellness line, a selection of low-calorie, vitamin-packed dishes priced from P55 to P175.
"We want to make healthy, quality food accessible to every Filipino. We hope to make it easier for Filipinos to create promising and feasible healthy lifestyles," shares Family Mart General Manager Ed Paredes Jr. Chef Him Uy de Baron adds, "It’s whole food, and it’s nutritious. It’s something we thought of that could benefit your bodies and your healthy lifestyle."
A light little snack
For snacking, Family Mart offers Veggie Sticks and Hummus Dip (P75)-carrots, celery, radish, and broccoli, with hummus seasoned with chickpeas, sesame oil, peanut butter, garlic, paprika, lemon juice, and olive oil.
Every package helpfully reveals the calorie count for those who are watching their weight for health reasons or otherwise.
Pasta dishes are part of the selection, too, starting with the Chicken Pomodoro (P69), pasta in rich tomato sauce topped with chicken breast fillet. Heat and tang come together in the Spanish Sardine Arabiatta (P69).
Chef Him’s signature Asian flair reveals itself in these two rice dishes.
Power breakfast meals for heavy to light energy requirements
Brown rice dishes include the Breakfast Chicken Rice Meal (P150; it’s just like your favorite tocino), the Breakfast Beef Rice Meal (P150) with savory tapa, the Smoked Fish Rice Meal (P150) with aromatic milkfish and greens, the Healthy Hainanese Chicken (P150) served with chili and ginger leek sauces, and the Kimchi Beef Rice (P175) with lean beef and healthy carbs stirred with fiber-rich kimchi.
Have taho minus the guilt. Family Mart’s version (classic and mango at P55 each) includes not too much syrup, just enough to add flavor to the chilled soya pudding.
You know you go to Family Mart for the swirl-all-you-can soft-serve ice cream, but if you’re going for healthy, it’s available, too.
Family Mart’s Fresh n’ Lite line will be available starting today, March 25.
