Take a break from your busy work schedule and head to Maker and Made. Trust us, a meal here will start your morning off on the right foot and keep you on track for a great day ahead.

In the middle of one of BGC's busiest areas for office workers, Maker and Made is an open invitation to take it slow and sit down for a meal, a snack, or even just a cup of joe. Its exterior, with its warm, homey tones, reminds passersby of the merits of having a cozy, sit-down meal. You could almost smell the aroma of warm bread and coffee wafting from the entrance. 

When you enter the roughly 60-seater space, you'll be greeted with a mix of rustic and industrial interiors reminiscent of modern European cafés. Right next to the entrance is their small bakery and deli, which houses the freshly baked bread and coffee beans up for sale, and a few steps forward will grant you a view of not only where your coffee is made but also of the busy full-sized kitchen.

At first glance, it would be easy to brush this off as another fancy coffee shop appealing to the hipster yet busy BGC yuppie, but if you take the time to look at their menu, you'll find that calling Maker and Made just a coffee place would be doing its well thought out and extensive menu a great injustice. 

Sure, this spot sports a large drinks menu, with everything from your usual brewed coffee to stronger espresso-based drinks, but there's so much more than that. Just in the drinks section alone, you'll be treated to a variety of beverages, from juices to teas and even alcoholic drinks.  

Don't fill up on liquids even if they are hard to resist. Drink that Iced Mocha (P190) slowly, savor the blend of local coffee from Mt. Apo and Bukidnon mixed with local dark chocolate tablea and steamed milk. Discover new go-to bevs like their creamy, fruity yet energizing Breakfast Smoothie (P245) or Red Dragon Smoothie (P245). Sure, get your fill, quench that thirst, but leave room, leave a lot of room for the real star—the food. 

Come to Maker and Made hungry, and you'll leave stuffed. As you would expect, the menu here mostly focuses on things you would crave early in the morning. Those who like their breakfasts with a touch of sugar would grow to love the fluffy, balanced sweet-savory flavors of the Ricotta Banana Hotcake (P390) or the saccharine, crunchy and mochi-like Churros (P150) dipped in table cream and butterscotch.

But those looking for a lighter, savory fare would also find their appetites sated here. An order of Salmon Stracciatella Toast (P510) that we had when we first visited is still fresh in our minds. Maker and Made's beet-cured salmon topped with pickled tomatoes, onions, radish, and seasonal herbs on country toast is a masterclass in balanced flavors. The rich smoky salmon flavors are cut through with  fresh and light tones by the pickled toppings. 

Those looking for something richer, creamier, and butter-laden would enjoy their take on the French staple croque madame. Maker and Made's Three Cheese Croque Madame (P540) is another must-try when dining here as it pairs well with their coffee blend, making for an interesting earthy-creamy flavor push and pull.

Coming with a completely empty stomach and looking for something that'll fuel you for the entire day? Try the Farmer's Breakfast (P630). This behemoth of a breakfast plate is a mix of continental eats with a touch of Filipino flavor. Western-style sausage, bacon, potato royale, mushrooms, and seasonal greens are served with eggs and sourdough pan de sal, and despite not having rice on the plate, this is very filling. Two people can easily share it and have no complaints.

Every meal you have here supports this local brand and several local farms and artisans. Speaking with SPOT.ph, Maker and Made's team consistently shared with us that part of their goal is to uplift local farmers and service providers. To do this, they have made an entirely conscious effort to source most, if not all, of their ingredients, equipment, and talent locally. Part of what makes Maker and Made stand out from other brands in the same field is their intentional insertion of local flair in every aspect of the dining experience—from tweaking classical recipes to include Filipino flavors and ingredients to the sourcing of decor, accents, and plates—everything is consciously Filipino first.
