Taste Test: McDonald's New WcDonald's Sauce for Their Nuggets

(SPOT.ph) Once in a blue moon, McDonald's launches a new dip for their famous McNuggets. One worth noting was the fast food chain's collaboration with Korean boy group BTS and the Cajun sauce that came with the nuggets. We all witnessed how everyone was crazed over the collaboration, that went as far as preserving the special packaging. This time around, from the world of K-pop, they're turning Japanese with their manga-inspired WcDonald's—but if you're anything like us, you're probably wondering: what does it actually taste like?

What is WcDonald's?

McDonald's Philippines launched the manga-inspired meal, a 6-piece Chicken McNuggets Meal with a Savory Chili WcNuggets Sauce. The new McNuggets meal comes in a special packaging with an upside-down McDonald's logo—the arch is turned upside down, which now looks like the letter W for WcDonald's. (JICYDK, changing up a letter of a well-known brand is common in animes or mangas to avoid any lawsuits.)

The special packaging comes with a paper bag with manga-style panels, telling a short story revolving around the new meal and the anime characters specifically illustrated for the fast food chain. There are characters with names wittingly referencing McDonald's items such as Burg, Flurry, and Mr. Bev.

The Savory Chili WcNuggets Sauce

The WcDonald's meal has the same McNuggets we all surely know by now, so we're not going to do a deep dive into the well-loved McDonald's staple. What's new is the Savory Chili WcNuggets Sauce, which is a tarter, spicier version of the typical barbecue dip the McNuggets come with.

The name "Savory Chili," isn't misleading in any way, but it doesn't fully capture the sauce's real highlight—that is, the tartness of it, as thatt's the first flavor that registers with each bite. The tartness is fruity, almost like a hickory barbecue sauce or what you'd get if you mix barbecue sauce with ketchup, with the sourness turned up.

This is coming from someone who loves spicy food and has the tolerance for it: The spiciness of the WcNuggets dip is pretty much there—it's not shy and demands to be felt. While I wouldn't consider it challengingly spicy, at least to my standards, you can definitely taste the spiciness of it as an aftertaste. If you have a low spicy tolerance, try a small amount before drowning the McNuggets with the sauce.

How much is McDonald's WcDonald's meal?

You can only experience the Savory Chili WcNuggets Sauce sauce as a meal—there's no a la carte version. With a starting price of P233, the meal comes with either a medium or a large drink of our choice and fries on the side. If you want these WcNuggets with rice, you'd have to buy it as an additional item on top of the meal.
