Southbank Café + Lounge Earns Spot on Asia's Best Bars List 2024
Raise a glass to this homegrown lounge-bar-café.
(SPOT.ph) Time to raise a toast for Manila's bar scene. Asia's 50 Best has revealed the 51st to 100th entries for their annual Best Bars list, and one local spot makes it to their roster: Southbank Café + Lounge in Alabang, on the 82nd spot out of 100.

Southbank Cafe + Lounge on Asia's 50 Best Bars
Asia's 50 Best Bars praises the Westgate, Alabang outpost of the Melbourne-inspired café-by-day, lounge-bar-by-night spot for its "decidedly modern" approach to drinks that "makes use of the latest techniques and ingredients"; these drinks are then "described in an accessible way via a beautifully illustrated menu." Also given special mention is their "extensive" food lineup, which has everything from all-day breakfast to mains with flavors from around the world.
Designed by Kitty Bunag from Craftsmith Guild's creative team, Southbank's interior features a blend of industrial, botanical, and mid-century modern elements, giving a moody vibe.
A standout feature of the interior is the bar, prominently displaying the café's logo inspired by Aboriginal art. Apart from their debut branch in Muntinlupa, Southbank Cafe + Lounge also has a branch at Estancia in Capitol Commons.
Asia's 50 Best Bars
The annual ranking, which celebrates the best bars in Asia, has been published since 2016. It is based on votes by Asia’s 50 Best Bars Academy, composed of 265 industry professionals including bartenders, bar owners, drinks writers, educators, and cocktail aficionados.
Asia's Best Bars released its 51 to 100 list ahead of the main list of 50. The full list will be unveiled in a July 16 ceremony in Hong Kong.
In the list, Singapore was the leader with eight bars, followed by Bangkok with six entries, and then Tokyo with five. At the top of the extended list was Soko from Seoul.
In 2023, Makati's The Curator figured on the list for a seventh time and was the only Filipino representative in the Top 50. While Shangri-La The Fort's speakeasy bar, The Back Room, finished at No. 75, marking its second time outside the Top 50 since 2019.
