The Oreo x Coca-Cola Collab Is... Interesting, to Say the Least

All in the name of (and we quote) the "Real Magic of friendship."

(SPOT.ph) You've gotta admit that Oreo's record of brand collaborations teeters between ingenious and WTF—there is no in-between. The sandwich cookie once partnered with the likes of Ritz and Krispy Kreme which, to be fair, sounded good on paper. On the opposite side of the spectrum though, Oreo has once worked with the likes of Sour Patch candy, Barefoot wine, and most recently, Coca-Cola.

So many questions came into our minds when we saw the new collaboration, such as: Is it an Oreo-flavored Coca-Cola or is it a Coca-Cola-flavored Oreo? Do we have to twist, lick, and dunk in a glass of Coke? And do we want to try it for the sake of being an adventurous eater?

Here's everything you need to know about the Oreo and Cocoa-Cola collaboration:

We don't know how much of the global population pairs Oreos with Coke for these to be called "Besties," but that's what they called this unlikely duo (yes, really—peep the poster below). This collaboration offers a "unique flavor experience" to celebrate, and we quote, the "Real Magic of friendship" between the two household brands.

This collaboration brought about a pair of limited-time-only products: Coca-Cola OREO Zero Sugar and the Oreo Coca-Cola Sandwich Cookie. It may sound self-explanatory, but there is some vagueness to how these products are described. According to the Coca-Cola website, the new drink features a Coca-Cola taste with Oreo cookie-inspired "hints," and as to what those hints are, your guess is as good as ours. However, a review on Daily Meal says this is pretty much your regular Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, just with more notes of vanilla and chocolate from Oreos.

Thankfully though, there is a clearer idea of what we can expect from the cookie version when it drops. The Oreo Coca-Cola Sandwich Cookie has two cookie halves—"basecakes," as Oreo officially calls it. One is the classic Oreo, and the other comes in a bright (read: very Coca-Cola) red color. What's interesting is that the Oreo creme sandwiched in between the cookies has red specks that are actually popping candies, likely to simulate the fizz that comes from carbonated soda.

The Coca-Cola x Oreo collaboration will happen, whether we like it or not, in the U.S. this September. There's no word about whether they'll launch in the Philippines too—best to be patient and wait for the announcement, because aside from the new cookies and soda, there's so much more to this crossover to watch out for.

Coca-Cola and Oreo are not exactly the type to just launch without making a scene. And with that, the brands will also launch a platform created with Spotify that syncs up music preferences between one bestie and the other. According to Food and Wine, there's also merchandise that will be available at select Forever21  stores, then there's also a Slurpee that will be sold at 7-Eleven, Speedway, and Stripes stores. Hopefully, fingers crossed, and manifesting that we'll eventually get the official merchandise and Slurpee in the Philippines too.
