(SPOT.ph) We've seen Taqueria Franco take tacos along on all sorts of unexplored routes and destinations. But that's far from the only dish they're capable of remixing in Chef Miko Calo's distinct French-inflected manner—in fact, they're now taking on the well-loved Asian staple that is rice bowls with their new French Onion Rice Bowls available at lunch time.

Drool-worthy lunch specials at Taqueria Franco

Work in the Salcedo area and tired of drab old office cafeteria fare, or just feel like noshing on something special at lunch hour? Taqueria Franco now serves French Onion Rice Bowls (P375)—balanced yet filling rice bowls available from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. The decision to offer these specials came about as folks working in the area would drop by looking for rice especially around at lunch time, Taqueria Franco's RJ Galang tells us. Calo and the team then brainstormed ideas that would cater to the demand, while staying on-brand given the playful, French-Mexican personality Taqueria Franco has come to be known (and loved) for.

Each rice bowl has a base of Calo's French onion rice—that's rice cooked and flavored a la French onion soup for a buttery, savory-sweet-earthy character, topped with your choice of protein and the taqueria's signature French-fied sauces. You can't go wrong with the Steak option, topped with juicy slices of seared hanging tender, plus classic partners of Béarnaise sauce, beef jus, and fried onions. The Fish stars butter-roasted cobbler, gone the fish taco-inspired direction with creamy-crisp companions of rouille, avocado mousse, Franco pepper sauce, purple cabbage, and a punchy chili-lime vinaigrette. More Asian-esque in theme is the Pork Belly Confit, which is given a soy-mustard glaze and kept company by pickled onion and green chili. Other options are the Prawn dressed in sauce Meunière along with honey-glazed carrots, almonds, and Franco pepper sauce; and the French Horn Mushrooms that are sauteed and lent spunk by a roasted tomato salsa, cilantro-parsley pistou, arugula, frisée, and parsley.

Know what'd really take lunch hour to happier heights? Alcohol, in just-right amounts to get you buzzed and spirited but not K.O.-levels drunk. And with that, Taqueria Franco's turning 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. into the #HappiestHour with P250 wine cocktails inspired by Spanish  tinto de verano. Lemon soda, Vermouth, and your wine base of choice power this drink; take your pick between the Tinto de Franco (red wine), Blanco de Franco (white wine), or Rosé de Franco (self-explanatory); each order comes with Franco's freshly fried tortilla chips, too.
