10 Must-Try Holes in the Wall: 2011 Edition
Street cred and a square meal are guaranteed in any of these off-the-beaten-path grub hubs.
(SPOT.ph) In the gilded age of mall culture and mega franchise restaurants, it's a welcome breather that we can still fall back on fuss-free dining or breakfast at a mom-and-pop eatery. Comfortably outside the orbit of commercial areas, many of the metro's hole-in-the-wall restaurants range from the dubious to the delectable, persisting and sometimes flourishing in their own neck of the woods. This is Metro Manila after all, where every vacant spot and open sidewalk is fair game for the budding food entrepreneur.

But whether it's a dimly-lit shawarma house in the heart of 'Far-view,' or some back alley Korean barbecue in a forgettable section of Makati, you can be guaranteed both street cred and a square meal in any of these grub hubs. Caked with soy sauce and garlic dip, we've come back from the trenches to gleefully report to you our latest nominees.
