(SPOT.ph) There are few things as comforting as a bowl of ramen, so much so that no one seems to mind slurping away despite the sweltering Manila heat. Case in point: Ippudo and the long lines they consistently generate. Now, they've come up with a new roster of side dishes that make your meal (and the wait) all the more gratifying.
Fried Chicken Bun
The Fried Chicken Bun (P100) is just as noteworthy as their famous pork buns. In between fluffy mantou rests a hefty chunk of fried chicken, crisp and glistening with barbecue sauce on the outside, soft and juicy on the inside. To balance it all out, the mantou is also filled with shredded cabbage and Japanese mayonnaise.
The fried chicken doesn't stop there. For instance, there's the lip-smacking Chicken Wings (P255) glazed in a sweet and smoky sauce and sprinkled with sesame seeds. The Nanban Karaage (P250) is the traditional karaage glazed with a sweet sauce and served with mixed greens on the side. Douse it in Ippudo's tartar sauce, and you're golden.
Fried Chicken Skin Salad
For those who prefer a (somewhat) lighter option, the Fried Chicken Skin Salad (P220) is your best bet. The mixed greens are topped with perfectly seasoned shio tamago, but it's the generous amount of crisp chicken skin that gives it a glorious, much-needed bite.
Meanwhile, the Okonomiyaki (P245) is given an Ippudo twist with fatty, melt-in-your-mouth charsiu drizzled in okonomiyaki sauce and Japanese mayonnaise.
Matcha Creme Brulee
Cap off your meal with the Matcha Creme Brulee (P140), a dish that marries the earthy, bittersweet flavors of matcha with creamy and indulgent custard. The vanilla ice cream ties the dish together, so make sure every spoonful has all the components.
Just when you think a bowl of ramen isn't satisfying on its own, along comes Ippudo's new dishes. Think of them as savory, well-rounded additions to your meal—like an even bigger reward for braving the long line. Who doesn't want that?
