You can now try authentic Hawaiian barbecue in Manila

Say aloha to L&L Hawaiian Barbecue, the biggest barbecue chain in Hawaii


( Aloha and mabuhay! L&L Hawaiian Barbecue has just opened on the fifth floor of Shangri-La Plaza. 


According to L&L's website, the idea began when owners Johnson Kam and Eddie Flores Jr. bought the L&L Drive-Inn in Honolulu. After a rough start, the restaurant grew in popularity due to its affordable yet generous offerings of lunch plates. L&L Drive-Inn developed into a chain in Hawaii by the late '80s, and about a decade later, as they branched out to other states, Eddie repackaged the brand as L&L Hawaiian Barbecue.


The Filipino-Chinese (by way of Hong Kong) co-owner actually coined the term "Hawaiian barbecue (Hawaiian BBQ)," which refers to their famous set meal on a plate, akin to a bento box. 


L&L Hawaiian Barbecue peddles a variety of Hawaiian BBQ plates, as well as popular Hawaiian dishes like the Spam musubi.
