(SPOT.ph) To those who aren’t used to Skyway toll fees, a trip to the southern part of the Metro can feel like traveling to a different country. Luckily, no passport is required to hit up Alabang and its burgeoning restaurant scene. While notable and exciting original concepts are popping up, Alabang is also celebrating the rise of "northern" favorites, like craft beer spot The Perfect Pint, which first opened in Bonifacio Global City back in 2014.

 

The Perfect Pint is a beer enthusiast’s paradise, and its second branch at Alabang’s Molito Lifestyle Center continues to enlighten beer lovers and newbies on what the "impeccable brew" is. The Molito spot calls itself a brewpub. What sets it apart is the actual brewery within the premises, enabling master beer brewers the freedom to churn out innovative flavors, like the surprisingly refreshing Thai Wheat, a light beer subtly infused with lemongrass and coriander.

Owners Alex, Raymond, and Noel Tempongko are living their dream with the opening of their impressive microbrewery, and a quick tour validates the brothers’ staunch dedication to perfecting the artful craft. It’s a meticulous process—from milling and mashing malted barley to fermenting the ale a few days before conditioning, and finally, to bottling the brew. At The Perfect Pint, you’ll see massive kegs lined up on the second floor right above the bar, each one patiently waiting for the next step—conditioning, in this case.

A visit to The Perfect Pint always comes with some intensive beer education. If the craft selection overwhelms you and you’re not sure which beer to taste first, the Beer Flight (P350 for four 150-mL glasses) is the introduction you need. The four beers will start you off from light to dark. It changes every time, but you can't go wrong with the Thai Wheat (6% ABV); Street Smart Pale Ale (7% ABV), a citrusy and hoppy pale ale with tropical fruits, grapefruit, melon, and pine; Hoppy Road IPA (7.1% ABV), which flaunts citrusy with notes of melon and peach; and Holy Grail Double IPA (8% ABV), with double the hops and notes of fresh pine, citrus, and tropical fruits.

Beer, of course, works best with food. Besides their hefty meals, you can also chow down on classic pulutan fare like the creamy, crunchy Oyster Sea-sig (P385), the sleeper-hit Calamari Negra (P330), and the ultimate show-stopping Heap of Fresh Bacon with House Pickles (P390).

With their microbrewery making it relatively easier to roll out new flavors, The Perfect Pint makes craft beer all the more exciting. What makes the long process worth it is when customers taste new flavors and excitedly detect the deep hints of citrus or chocolate in a full-bodied brew after a few swigs. It's always a learning experience, but the best part is that it's an eating experience, too. We’re staying for another round!
