10 Drinking Spots in Manila With Great Food

We mean the alcoholic kind.

(SPOT.ph) More often than not, pubs, bars, or other drinking spots have a plethora of brews and cocktails but offer a measly food selection. We scoured the Metro for some of the best places where you get an overall comprehensive experience—a warm, inviting ambience, great food, and exceptional drinks to go with it all.

Cuore Bistro & Social Lounge

Cuore Bistro is an intimate and cozy lounge hidden somewhere along Jupiter Street. Their menu is intriguing because each dish tells a sweet story, like When Our Eyes Met, fried baby squid calamari with marinara and aioli dips, and The One Who Got Away nacho fries. The interiors will remind you of a fireplace with its black brick walls and subdued lighting, but what will really grab your attention is the well-stocked bar. The Sangria is their bestseller, a fruity and refreshing drink for a happy, light buzz (and maybe a bit of courage to approach that cute stranger). The owners encourage guests to linger and interact with each other. After all, they don’t call it “social lounge” for nothing.

Must-tries: Mornings After (P485), Sangria (P280)

Cuore Bistro & Social Lounge is at Valdelcon Building, 20 Jupiter Street, Barangay Bel-Air, Makati City. Read more about Cuore Bistro & Social Lounge.

Chotto Matte and Izakaya Sensu

Chotto Matte and Izakaya Sensu is a dual-concept restaurant—one specializes in food, the other creates amazing libations (both places allow guests to cross-order). Izakaya Sensu’s bento boxes, sensu rolls, and sashimi plates serve as great starters for drinks. Chotto Matte, on the other hand, is the bar which fronts the restaurant. It holds a large collection of authentic Japanese alcoholic drinks including cocktails, artisanal sakes, and what they call “the best Kakubin Highball in town.”

Must-tries: Sensu Roll (P575), Classic Suntory "Kakubin" (P250)

Chotto Matte and Izakaya Sensu is at Net Park, 28th Street corner 5th Avenue, Bonifacio Global City. Read more about Chotto Matte and Izakaya Sensu.

Horse’s Mouth and Uma Uma Ramen

Horse’s Mouth is the bar hidden by an inconspicuous black curtain at the far end of Uma Uma Ramen—another joint concept. The goal is to create a place that’s great for both dining and drinking, and like Chotto Matte and Izakaya Sensu, cross-ordering is also allowed. Horse’s Mouth is a whiskey and cocktail bar that offers a picturesque sunset view and stunning light fixtures. Uma Uma’s signature Ramen is an ideal post-drink meal.

Moonshine P.U.B. x Public Urban Bar

When Moonshine relocated from Jupiter Street to Sapphire Bloc, they brought their loyal following with them. The Tokwa’t Bagnet Belly, Angus Beef Sisig, and Chicano Tacos are just few of the crowd-pleasers.
