(SPOT.ph) Word has gotten out about Trattoria Altrove in El Nido and Coron but just recently, the Slovenian-owned restaurant opened its newest branch south of the Metro. Because it’s too good to keep as a secret but too special to share with just everyone, it instantly became a not-so-secret “secret” place when one wants to indulge in a gastronomical tour through Italy.
The warm homey vibe of the restaurant is unpretentious, with a tinge of intimacy and elegance. You’ll be whisked away to a tropical retreat with a secluded garden nook while enjoying an al fresco feast. The wood flooring is softened with a refreshing view of lush greens and the dim lighting at night gives even more drama to the place.
Adding to the experience, guests are asked to remove their shoes upon entering the restaurant. “We want to make our guests feel at home. First, it’s an old Filipino tradition and second, it’s like bringing the beach vibe here where you can be barefoot and simply enjoy the breeze and good food. We have the same layout in all our branches and some of the materials used here are even shipped from Palawan,” says the restaurant manager, Roland Schaub.
Trattoria Altrove is known for its outrageously delicious pizza made in a wood burning oven. The pizzas are made from scratch (which basically makes all the difference!) and it’s authentically Neapolitan with a crispy thin crust and typically soft center.
Prosciutto Crudo con Tartufo
A crowd favorite is their Prosciutto Crudo con Tartufo (P720). It has air-dried Parma ham with wild Italian truffle mushroom cream, arugula, and mozzarella. The flavors are simply outstanding and because the truffle blankets the pizza, it has a very delicious aroma. Another must-try is the Quattro Stagioni (P510) or the Four Seasons, a delicious combination of four different toppings including mushrooms, artichokes, ham, and olives. You can also create your own pizza and choose any of your favorite toppings with Margherita Pizza (P350) as a base.
Gamberi e Olio d’Oliva
Pollo e Crema con Tartufo
Trattoria Altrove also serves sumptuous Italian pasta classics like the Gamberi e Olio d’Oliva (P385) with sautéed shrimps tossed in a blend of sun-dried tomatoes, extra virgin olive oil, and a pinch of crushed red pepper with fresh shaved parmesan. If you’re craving quintessential comfort food, try the Pollo e Crema con Tartufo (P580) with chicken breast fillet seasoned with creamy truffle sauce. Trattoria Altrove also does a good job with their Bistecca l’Osso (P790), a top class Australian rib eye steak served with lemon-butter risoni pasta.
There are also a couple of indulgent desserts to round out the offerings. Our favorite? Their Home-made Gelato (P150) with dark chocolate and orange filling, and white chocolate with mango filling. If you come at night, there’s a pianist who will provide you with some light background music while you enjoy your cocktail or wine.
Trattoria Altrove’s spread is undeniably delectable, but the dining experience it offers is so much more than that. In a way, it’s a destination restaurant cloaked as a neighborhood joint.
