(SPOT.ph) We all have a favorite tita. It could be the cool tita who knows more about what’s hip and trending than you or the rich tita who showers all inaanaks with lavish gifts. And then there’s the tita who has the formula for an unforgettable party down pat: A beautiful setting and unquestionably good food.

Trish Panlilio of nawwTy’s Kitchen and The Gourmand Market is one such woman, and Mulberry Door by nawwTy's Kitchen is a glimpse of how she entertains. One glance around, and we can already picture titas and titas-at-hearts frantically taking down notes (and photos). After all, who wouldn’t want their home to look like this: high ceilings, elegant wood furniture, gilded mirrors, and fresh flowers all over. Even the comfort room is Instagram-worthy (yes, we checked). “It does look like our house,” shares her son Matteo Panlilio Cu-Unjieng. “This has become our second home.”

Even the menu is full of dishes Trish has whipped up at least once in her own home kitchen—curated together with her sons. You could say Mulberry Door is a family effort, with her three sons being as involved in running the restaurant as Trish.

And while the food at Mulberry Door are dishes the Panlilio family has served in their home for many occasions, it’s not your typical home cooking. “This is luxe comfort food,” says Matteo. “It’s not something you’d find anywhere else.”

Matteo's Lamb Burger with Homemade Taro Chips

Take Matteo’s Lamb Burger with Homemade Taro Chips (P550) for instance—named after Matteo because it’s his favorite from the bunch. Nothing says “comfort food” more than a good burger, but Trish takes it a step further by replacing beef with lamb and adding not-so-ordinary ingredients: Emmental and blue cheese melted on top of the patty, plus alfalfa sprouts, between croissant buns. It’s everything a great burger should be—a juicy patty with a slight char between two soft buns—but the sharp cheeses and the punch of saltiness from the alfalfa tell you that this isn’t your typical sandwich.

Lime Tarragon Prawns

If you’d rather start with something light, have the Lime Tarragon Prawns (P390). This tastes like a more refined version of gambas, with the lime bringing out the fresh and light sweetness of the prawns.

Porcini Penne

While we won’t say no to truffle pasta any time soon, the Porcini Penne (P340) is a welcome change of pace. The porcini gives the pasta an earthiness that is lighter than truffle, with only a little salt and pepper to give it a boost.

Grilled Salmon in Almond Cream Sauce With Mashed Potatoes

There’s no question that the Grilled Salmon in Almond Cream Sauce With Mashed Potatoes (P550) is fine comfort food. The flavors are homey and uncomplicated but undeniably excellent: The grilled salmon is lightly smoked but still velvety, the almonds add a nuttiness that elevates the cream sauce, and the mashed potatoes are rich and creamy, adding texture without taking away flavor.

Flan by nawwTy's Kitchen

A dish with the nawwTy’s Kitchen name attached to it is bound to be delicious, and the Flan by nawwTy’s Kitchen (P120) doesn’t disappoint. It's quite dense but not overwhelmingly so, with a hint of citrus to balance things. The fresh strawberry topping is also a welcome addition, adding a note of fruitiness that makes this a winner.

Considering the wonders that Trish whips up in the kitchen, it comes as a surprise that she has had no formal training. “She just started cooking at home,” shares Matteo. “My friends would come over, and she would cook for them. She would cook for her friends too.” With dishes like this, you can’t help but wish you could have dinner at her home, too—then you remember that you can have exactly that at Mulberry Door.
