Wednesday Café Is the Perfect Hump-Day Hangout
Rainbow lattes, anyone?
G/F Building A, SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City
Open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
(SPOT.ph) Sometimes, all you need is a good cup of coffee without a lot of bells and whistles—and Wednesday Café is here to give you what you’re looking for.
It’s fairly easy to spot the two-month-old café amid the busy establishments of SM Megamall. Their industrial-gray wall is an eye-catcher as it shows a big mural of Wednesday Addams, with her trademark blank expression while holding a cup of Joe. The wall art that reads “Once you go black coffee, you never go back” should tip you off that you’re probably sitting at one of the mall’s best coffee spots (although the café isn’t necessarily paying homage to the fictional character).
Wednesday Café carves out a quiet little nook for itself to focus on what it does best: Coffee, along with a few other tasty offerings that would go well with a cup. It’s actually an offshoot of Monday Coffee, which first came about as a pop-up store in various shopping malls. This new standalone is the owners’ first dessert concept, and the idea behind it is that while you need coffee to boost your energy on Mondays, Wednesday is the day you’ll be needing a break from all the madness the week has given you. And what better way to greet hump day than with old-fashioned sweets?
Wednesday Café does have treats enough to keep you relaxed and mellow. The Iced Latte (P100) is your basic latte and many people’s favorite so far. Another menu contender is the Black Latte (P120/hot, P140/cold), with a striking dark-gray tone thanks to activated charcoal, making it a potentially healthy drink, too. If you didn't know, activated charcoal helps detoxify the digestive system and can even prevent hangovers.
The Rainbow Latte (P120/hot, P140/cold) is your everyday latte with a twist; a colorful concoction that would make you want to sip until the last drop. The café makes sure to provide only good-quality espresso and milk—nothing too fancy or over-the-top.
Apart from that, they also offer Bulletproof Coffee (P120/hot, P140/cold), Chocolate
Ham and Cheese Crepe
Mango Nutella Crepe
But what really sets Wednesday Café apart from Monday Coffee is their homemade snacks and savory crepes, rounding out the whole coffee-shop experience. Don’t leave without trying the Ham and Cheese Crepe (P100), which features hefty slices of ham and a generous heap of melted cheese. The Mango Nutella Crepe (P90) is also a worthwhile pick, and is drizzled with chocolate syrup and served with a generous scoop of ice cream if you’re willing to add an extra P20.
Cold brews: Monday Blend and Lipa Batangas Blend
Like Monday Coffee, the café also sells some of their handcrafted cold brew coffee. Grab any of their two tasty and stimulating variants: The Lipa Batangas Blend (P250) boasts a bright and light, more acidic coffee flavor while their Monday Blend (P200), is thick and full-bodied, which makes it the ideal partner for fresh milk.
Perhaps the interesting thing about Wednesday Café is they’re not the type to do anything outrageous or experimental—they’re perfectly comfortable with who they are, and what they really just want to do is serve people great-tasting coffee that’ll make you wish it was Wednesday every day of the week.
