Go Beyond Your Regular Katsu With Yabu's New Fried Skewers
A set can get you everything from tiger prawns to mozzarella!
(SPOT.ph) Eating food on a stick has its own special appeal; just look at the popularity of fishballs and isaw. It could be the convenience of having food you can snack on even while on the go, or the informality of eating without any utensils. And, well, it just takes you back to the kiddie parties of your childhood when all you wanted was a hot dog on a stick with a marshmallow on the end. Whatever it is, we just can’t stop gnawing on skewers.
Trust Japan though, to have their own interesting take on something that's already good. Kushikatsu are skewers of deep-fried goodness that are especially popular in the watering holes of Osaka. The good news is, you won’t have to go far for a taste: Yabu just expanded their menu to include their own version with the Kushi Katsu (P420/Deluxe, P470/Premium).
Deluxe Kushi Katsu
One of the best things about kushikatsu is that you can pretty much have anything on it—as long as it can be breaded and fried, it can go on the stick. At Yabu, you can choose between two sets of kushikatsu: The Deluxe has deep-fried black tiger prawn, zucchini, sweet potato, baby corn, chicken, mozzarella, and menchi (or ground pork croquettes), while the Premium has okra, salmon, mozzarella, quail eggs, squid, crab croquettes, and eggplant. You'll want lots of rice with these sets—luckily, an order of Kushi Katsu also comes with unlimited rice as well as unlimited shredded cabbage, miso soup, and fruits.
The Kushi Katsu is available now at all Yabu branches.
