(SPOT.ph) For many, a visit to Legazpi Sunday Market has become a habitual weekend activity, so regulars were alarmed to hear that the well-known market could be moving out of Legazpi Park. In a post on both the public Facebook group of Legazpi Sunday Market and on his personal account, Michael Claparols, one of the market's officers, shares that that the market's move to the parking lot between Corinthian Plaza and the Washington Sycip Park is temporary, with the date of transfer still to be decided.
The move is to make way for the construction of a multi-level carpark at Legazpi Park, though once this has been completed, the market will be moving back to its original location.
In an online exchange with SPOT.ph, Harley Dave Beltran, one of the market's vendors, confirms that the move is temporary: "Lilipat lang [ang Legazpi Sunday Market] pansamantala sa may Corinthian [Building]. Tapos [babalik kami] ulit after construction [ng parking]."
However, in an interview with Inquirer.net, Mara Pardo de Tavera, one of the organizers of Legazpi Sunday Market from the group Mara’s Organic Market (MOM) shares that the Barangay San Lorenzo Business Association has sent a circular to the market's vendors stating that February will be the last month that they would be allowed to operate in the park. She has also been quoted as saying that she is currently in negotiations with Butch Campos, chair of Fort Bonifacio Development Corp., who offered her alternative spaces in Bonifacio Global City. SPOT.ph has reached out to both Claparols and Pardo de Tavera and is waiting for further comment.
Will Legazpi Sunday Market be moving out of Makati or not? One thing's for sure—you've got to visit the weekend market now if you haven't yet.
Legazpi Sunday Market is at Herrera Street corner Legazpi and Salcedo V.A. Rufino Street, Legazpi Village, Makati City.
