( Sea salt is no stranger to the dessert world—in fact, in Australia, soft serve flavored with sea salt is a rising trend that we can safely say appeals even to those who are pretty “meh” about dessert. The idea of creating this soft serve came from Okinawa, but Aqua S from Sydney goes wild with the idea by coming up with unique flavors and fun toppings.

With their first Philippine branch in SM North, Aqua S is bound to be a new crowd favorite with their mastery of that incredible salty sweetness. The Sydney-born ice-cream shop switches up their flavors every two weeks, and listen: If you get the chance to get the Snickers x Sea Salt, proceed with caution because you might never have an actual Snickers bar the same way ever again.

The Dulce de Leche is a step up from your usual salted caramel.

Another instant classic is their take on salted caramel, Dulce De Leche x Sea Salt. For both combinations, the sea salt breaks up what should be a monotonous experience, subtly cutting through the sugary creaminess. And while you can order those flavors separately, the question is: Why would you want to?

Fairy floss and popcorn also give your ice cream a touch of whimsy

Their soft serve gets some help (not that it needs it, to be honest) from four unorthodox—but more than acceptable—Toppings (P30/two), which are permanent on the menu. So if the sea salt isn’t exciting enough for you, maybe some Popcorn and Fairy Floss will throw you back to school fairs and carnivals while providing some great texture. If you’re not a fan of cotton candy, though, worry not! This version of it is delightfully gritty and not at all too sweet.

On the other hand, you could create a fireside feel with some Popping Candy (fun!) and a Grilled Marshmallow. If you’re anything like us, you know it’s either the charred mallow way or the highway; don’t slide into our mentions, we’re not taking comments about this. Again, you could order any of these toppings individually, but they present the potential to get creative, even with such a short menu.

Don't want to get a cup? Go for a cone!

The fun doesn’t stop there. You can choose between Cones (P160/each) and Cups (P95/small, P130/medium, P160/large), and it really only depends on whether you’ve got a quick way to get your hands clean again. But, if anything, the cone could just be another element of fun in your soft serve.

Be sure to check back on the 15th and 30th of every month to see what else they’ve got lined up, and keep an eye out for more stalls to pop up around the Metro. With the rotating flavors and a dash of sea salt added to their soft serve, you might just end up visiting Aqua S more than once.
