(SPOT.ph) Jollibee recently announced they’d be phasing out their Champ burger—the classic burger which was among Jollibee’s original offerings, famed for its 1/3-pounder patty that satisfied the hungriest of appetites. Sadly, too many people were sleeping on it. All the cool kids get Chickenjoy, maybe an order of fries and a Yumburger on the side—but the Champ? It had been long been pushed to the side by many.
Still, there were the rest of us who had believed in (and tasted) its hefty, juicy goodness from the beginning—and for whom the news comes as a huge disappointment. As kids these days call it, walang forever. And the phase-out made us remember all the heartbroken quoteable quotes we'd stored in our brains:
"I gave you everything, but you left me with nothing." - Niño (Gerald Anderson), How To Be Yours
We thought we had give the Champ our all—we ordered it, patronized it, maybe even expressed our love for it on social media. But sometimes, love’s just not enough—not when we’re all slaves to the bigger forces surrounding us, anyway. (Why, Jollibee, why?!)
"I was willing to wait. Kaya lang napagod ako—napagod ang puso ko na maghintay, magtanong, magalit." - Marco (Piolo Pascual), Starting Over Again
We were literally willing to endure the five-to-ten minute wait every time we ordered the Champ, because the premise of its thick, beefy, 1/3-pound goodness was always worth it. This time, however, we’re talking a much longer wait.
"I should know if I'm being set up for a big heartbreak." - Uno (John Lloyd Cruz), Just The 3 of Us
Jollibee does state that they may bring back the Champ at some point. But at this point nothing’s for certain, and nothing hurts like getting our hopes up only for things to not push through at all.
“Isang beses lang ako nagmahal. Masama ba magmahal ng isa lang?” - Tonyo (Empoy Marquez), Kita Kita
The Yumburger could try, but ultimately, no other burger came close to the Champ. We loved it like no other; now that it’s gone, our hearts (and stomachs) couldn’t be more empty.
"I deserve an explanation." - Marco (Piolo Pascual), Starting Over Again
Sure, the Champ may not be as popular as Jollibee’s other offerings. But that’s no reason to completely give up on the iconic burger. We love you, Jollibee, but we just don’t understand.
