This Soon-to-Open Yogurt-Drink Spot Lets You Have Yogurt With Purple Rice, Fruits + More

Yogost's drinks are a refreshing new way to cool down.

(SPOT.ph) Following in milk tea’s footsteps, yogurt drinks may well be the next big thing—it’s got a growing following especially in East Asia and Australia. Here’s your chance to try it: Shenzhen yogurt-drink spot Yogost is coming to the Philippines, and they’re bringing their signature yogurt drinks here in Manila. They're targeting a February 21 opening for their branch at Ayala Malls Manila Bay and March for their flagship store in Greenhills.

As mentioned, yogurt drinks are the star here, and they use yogurt that’s made in-house with no preservatives. Other ingredients—fresh fruits, rice, and more—are all sourced locally. Notably, their yogurt base isn’t too sour; it’s got some tartness to it, but still lets the flavors of the other ingredients to shine through.

Their lineup is divided into four sections, beginning with the Rich Series, yogurt-focused drinks that are just at the right level of thickness. The star of the menu is the Yogost Purple Rice (P125), which has mildly-sweet yogurt blended with purple rice. Strange as it sounds, it works, with the rice adding a nuttiness and an addictive firm chew to the creamy yogurt. Meanwhile, the Boba Loca (P135) is their take on the popular brown-sugar boba drink, with yogurt in the place of milk underlined with dark, sweet pearls.

In the VC Series (that’s Vitamin C for you), yogurt is blended with green tea and other fruits for a distinct earthy flavor—and extra antioxidants. In the Berry Zest Friend (P150), strawberries and lemon add an incomparable brightness and subtle bits of strawberry seeds to chew on. More on the citrusy side of the spectrum is the Orange You The Sweetest? (P150), with fresh orange juice lending zestiness to the floral green tea.

The Fruit Series features fresh fruits blended with their yogurt. The Love You Strawberry Much features the nostalgic combo of strawberry and yogurt—great for those looking for a classic-tasting sip. Meanwhile, it doesn’t get any more refreshing than the Aloha Berry (P145), which has two layers—a blueberry-yogurt blend on top and pineapple chunks at the bottom. Mix it before you dig in; the tropical character of the pineapple adds a new dimension to the blueberry and yogurt. On the more unconventional front is the Avo-Cuddle Me (P145), which blends yogurt with avocado and melon; the melon is more apparent, with the avocado coming across as a mild creaminess toward the end. In the Durian Durian (P160), the said fruit is blended with banana and yogurt for a harmonious sip, with just enough durian for extra custardiness—sans the stink.

If you think it tastes familiar, jujube is also a key ingredient in many Chinese desserts.

Lastly, the Blossom Series takes the aforementioned yogurt-purple rice combo and adds in more unusual flavors from all around the world. A standout is the Would Jujube My Date, which employs jujube, a.k.a. Chinese dates, for a distinctive, somewhat apple-y flavor. The Kiss From A Rose blends in its namesake flower, evened out with the yogurt’s tartness, for a drink that evokes Middle Eastern desserts.

With a diverse menu that includes drinks of different flavor profiles, there’s something for everyone at this yogurt-drink shop.
