This QC Shop Is Making Salted-Egg Yolk + Yogurt Smoothies a Thing
Don't knock it till you've tried it.
(SPOT.ph) Both yogurt and salted egg have had their moment in the Manila food scene. And much like milk tea, they never really went away as the shops and stalls selling them still exist to this day. But what if you could enjoy both in one go? We've found the unusual combo surprisingly works: One sip of Yomie’s Rice x Yogurt’s Yogurt With Salted Egg Yolk (P160) will have you saying it’s the crossover you never knew you needed, with the sharp and rich flavor of the salted-egg yolk complementing the tangy yogurt smoothie without going overboard.
“We take pride in our handmade yogurt, which is made fresh in store,” says Queenie Pua, who does marketing and communications for Yomie’s in the Philippines. The shop is known for the Yomie’s Purple Rice Yogurt (P140), of which they sell 10,000 cups daily worldwide. We aren’t surprised that it’s a crowd favorite, as it comes with chewy bits of purple rice that go well with Yomie’s signature yogurt for a refreshingly enjoyable treat.
Yomie's Rice x Yogurt is a yogurt-shop franchise from Shanghai, China, that's become popular in Australia and in other Asian countries. Pua says that the franchise owners of Yomie’s in the Philippines tried the famous smoothies in Australia and decided to bring the shop to Philippine shores. Its first branch in Banawe, Quezon City, opened in March but operations were halted because of the quarantine restrictions. Pua hopes that through their yogurt drinks, people can opt for healthier drinks without compromising taste.
Their Fresh Fruit x Yogurt Smoothie series is a great introduction to Yomie’s menu, with options like Passionate From Miles Away (P180), Straw to My Berry (P180), Avos! (P180), and Melon! Melon! (P140). Their Energy Grains x Yogurt Smoothie line, on the other hand, has Jujube Purple Rice Yogurt (P160), which has jujube fruit or red dates that lend a tangy-sweet taste to the smoothie; and Red Bean Purple Rice Yogurt (P160), a cold, chewy treat that brings their famed purple rice and red beans together in every sip. There’s also Miss Haw (P140), which blends their signature yogurt with dried hawthorn fruit bits—it might remind you of Haw Flakes candy! Oat lovers can go for their Haw Oats Yogurt (P160), which has hawthorn fruit bits and oats.
Currently, their Banawe branch is open for takeaway, but you can have their drinks delivered via Foodpanda, Grab Food, and Lala Food. They are planning to open their second branch in the Newport City area in October.
Yomie's Rice x Yogurt is at 99 Banawe Street, Quezon City. For more information, visit Yomie’s Rice x Yogurt’s Facebook page.
