We Tried Post's Chips Ahoy! Cereal and Here's What We Think
Does this cereal tastes like cookies?
(SPOT.ph) There's something appealing about the thought of having cookies for breakfast. After all, breakfast time is meant to fuel the day ahead, and these baked goods are regarded more as a treat to be enjoyed in moderation than a nutrient-dense way to start your day. But cereal brand Post is here to make our fantasies come true, somewhat. They've released Chips Ahoy! Cereal in the U.S.—and it's every cookie lover's dream come true, at least on paper. But does it actually deliver the cookie experience successfully in real life? We had to find out.
Price and availability: A 481-gram box goes for P399.75 at Landers Supermarket. If you can't head out, you can order it for delivery from their website.
Best for: Cookie monsters who have always dreamed of having cookies for breakfast, but want to do it in a socially acceptable form.
Best with: It's pretty good plain, but milk is—of course—the classic pairing.
Tastes like: On their own, they have a lightly sweet, caramelized flavor, and teensy chocolate bits that give you a burst of cocoa every few bites (we wish there was more!). But they don't quite taste like cookies, and the dominant flavor is still the nuttiness of its corn-and-oat cereal base. Still, we love that they're perfectly crunchy while still retaining an airy lightness within, making for an ultra-addictive treat.
We're also happy to report that they stay crunchy in cold milk, even after a few minutes. The residual milk once you finish your cereal also carries a sweet, slightly caramel-y flavor that we're more than happy to finish every last drop of.
Manage your expectations: If we were to try this blindfolded, we wouldn't say they taste like cookies. At the end of the day, we still miss the Cookie Crisp cereal of our youth.
Yay or nay: We give this a Yay because they're still plenty tasty as a sweet breakfast or light snack.
