Booking the right restaurant and then braving the traffic and the crowds is such a big ask, but celebrating this holiday with a special someone—or someone who has the potential to be special—can make it all worth the trouble. Sometimes the best way to celebrate the contentious holiday is by taking time off life to be with someone whose company you enjoy the most and sharing a meal together. Of course it doesn’t hurt when you dress up and the food is *chef’s kiss.*

X Marks the Spot
X Marks the Spot is the perfect date spot for friends, lovers, and everyone in between. The funky interiors and bold statement pieces in this Instagram-worthy café bar are enough to break the ice and make for a great conversation for first dates. Happy hour in X Marks the Spot means unlimited frozen drinks such as sangria, margaritas, and premium and infused gins that start at P399. Valentine’s Day might look different, but it’s just as fun with their Asian fusion dishes like Indo Beef (P300), Adobowww (P260), and Vietnamese bao buns that start at P190.

Tinderbox is Cebuano sophistication at its finest. It’s chic and modern—perfect for a couple who misses the city life but isn’t too keen on crowds. Tinderbox has topnotch wines and a gourmet selection at their deli counter as well as pasta, pizza, and other intercontinental dishes. If you’re worried about not securing a table in the Banilad branch, you can always try their outpost at Vibo Axis along Escario. The two branches do not share the same menu, but either fare is well-executed just the same. Some notable favorites from their menu are Carne Asada Burrito Bowl (P499) and Pasta Tinto with Garlic Shrimp and Chorizo (P349). Tinderbox even has a range of breakfast eats such as Eggs Florentine (P315) and Big Breakfast (P595) which consists of angus beef tapa, tocino, longganisa, and daing na bangus.

Straight Up Bar
When you’re in a busy metropolis like Cebu, the night sky doesn’t just sparkle with stars but with city lights, too. Straight Up Bar is a rooftop restaurant and bar that overlooks the booming business district that is IT Park.
Straight Up Bar’s Weekend of Love consists of a four-course dinner set for P2,022 for two persons, available on February 11, 12, and 14. This special selection includes gourmet dishes such as Au Poivre Red Wine Jus and Tiger Prawn with a side of beetroot, mashed potatoes, and honey glazed carrots and Cupid’s Classic Caesar Salad with Parmesan shavings and bacon crisps. Your sweet tooth will be satisfied with the choice of Grilled Cheese Cake, Tiramisu, and Custard Cake for dessert. This Valentine’s offering can be paired with a bottle of wine with an additional P1,200. You can also order their Food-to-Go desserts such as Assorted Chocolate Truffles (P999) if you’re looking for something easy to gift.

Tales and Feelings
New, original, and intimate—Tales and Feelings is the perfect place to bring a date who you’re itching to get to know more. It’s a hole-in-the-wall restaurant that loves to play around with ingredients, so their Valentine’s Day menu is a culinary adventure in itself, available only from February 12 to 14. The thoughtfully curated special menu costs P2,500 per person, with an additional P1,500 for wine pairings. They start you off with canapés of your choosing: a crispy soft-integrity farm egg paired with a light broad bean salad with smoked honey bacon; or Chilean mussel and prawn cocktail with avocado, Marie Rose, and sun-dried tomatoes. For your entreé, you can also choose between Seared Norwegian salmon loin with fennel pollen, sweet onion sauce, and trout roe; or a Japanese diver scallop coupled with pickled carrots, watercress and shellfish sauce, and lumpfish caviar. The main dish is a shared plate of Black Angus rib-eye steak with crayfish risotto, sour cream and chive potato and chive potato, a dollop of truffle mayonnaise, and onion rings. This special menu is capped off with a choice between chocolate mousse and a strawberry dessert.

This list wouldn’t be complete without one of Cebu’s OG romantic restaurants, Anzani. While the interior oozes elegance and luxury; their outdoor dining area also feels very romantic, especially when the night sky is lit up with stars. Anzani sits on the hill going up to Busay. Having their “New Mediterranean cuisine” tastes even better when breathing in fresh mountain air. From February 12 to 15, Anzani has a special Valentine’s offering that costs P2,980+ per person. This special menu starts off with Prosecco as opposed to the typical aperitif to whet your taste buds and prepare you for the two courses before the main dish. You can either choose the rib-eye steak or Norwegian salmon filet for the main course. After which, you can end the night with a sweet treat—Romantic Strawberry Tiramisu.

Acacia Steakhouse prides itself as a home of Cebu’s favorite steaks. It withstood the test of time and adapted to the new normal by providing delivery options for Cebu and its neighboring cities. Now they’re open and ready to serve their high-quality steaks in their outdoor dining area. House favorites include the Black Pepper Steak (P560), Ostrich Pepper Steak (P560), and BBQ Pork Steak (P420). What better way to enjoy steak and fresh air, if not with a pitcher of Sangria (P750)? Ori Izakaya is decorated with Japanese antiques and plants of all sizes, giving you zen without even leaving the city. It’s also situated perfectly where you can see the Cebu City skyline without driving all the way up to Busay.
Ori Izakaya offers a modern take on Japanese cuisine. From February 13 to 15, Ori Izakaya is offering a Valentine’s Special for P2,400 for two persons. Their appetizers include a sakizuke of edamame, Ori special roll, and two pieces of their Shake Aburi. Their main course is a choice of a vegetarian Yakisoba, Beef Gyusara, Ginger Pork, or Grilled Salmon Belly that comes with two bowls of rice and miso soup. Their dessert is coffee jelly, and you can choose between hot or cold sake for drinks.
From their regular menu, their sushi rolls are eight pieces a plate, and their selections include Makizushi Roll (P360), a spicy tuna roll with mayonnaise, and the punnily named Sofishticated Roll (P360) stuffed with baked salmon, cucumber, avocado, tamago, mayonnaise, crispy salmon skin, and leeks.They also have rice bowls such as the Salmon Teriyaki Don (P450), Gyudon (P380), and Unagi Don (P550).

February 14 doesn’t fall on a weekend this year, but it might as well be if you’re eating at The Weekend. It is a contemporary chophouse, cocktail bar, and taproom, so it’s an easy choice for a couple who knows how to have fun. Their classy interiors match their beautifully presented dishes. The Fat Bastard (P600) is a thick-cut smoked and grilled pork chop with a side of French beans, ancho butter, and roasted garlic and fresh garlic aioli. As of writing, their Valentine’s specials aren’t ready for the public yet, but you just know that it’s worth the wait.

Pukot Kitchen almost gave us a heart attack when we thought they had closed for good in January of 2022. Now they’re back just in time to serve us flavorful meals for the year’s most romantic season and coincidentally, their third anniversary. Pukot Kitchen is cozy and quaint, and their menu is basically comfort on a platter. Although the special menu for Valentine’s is still under wraps, you can’t go wrong with any of these favorites. Their main dishes include Shepherd’s Pie (P400), Salisbury Steak (P440), and Pan Seared Salmon (P625). While waiting for your dinner, you can also munch on their appetizers such as the Chorizo Sliders (P380) and mussels drenched in white wine, Moules Mariniere (P425). Their classic cocktails start at P290, and their signature cocktails, like the Spicy Cebuano and Gua-pa, start at P300.

Circa 1900 is mostly known as an event venue for private and small events, but this colonial home is also a romantic date spot for those who want to enjoy a quiet dinner without driving so far away from the city. On February 14, they are preparing Valentine’s Dinner for P3,995 for two persons, which includes a four-course dinner paired with only the best red and white wines.
This Valentine’s, Circa is starting you off with prosciutto and pepper on a Parmesan crisp and a potato latke. The main course is Masala Grouper with mango coulis, sweet pea with tarragon, and bell pepper puree. The dinner also includes a plate of apple-and-onion-marinated striploin served with a scallion and ginger sauce and adlai, and for dessert, tiramisu and a chocolate truffle. Their seating is limited per hour so be sure to inquire and reserve before taking your date to Circa 1900.
