Good Shepherd's Famous Ube Jam Makes These New Desserts Extra Dreamy

( The Filipino food landscape goes by many colors—among them purple, if only for our love for ube a.k.a. purple yam. You'll often find the tuber used for sweet treats like ube jam, and if there's any ube jam that locals love, it's gotta be Good Shepherd's. The Baguio-based brand churns out creamy jam that's nutty without being too sweet (no wonder they continue to be at the top of people's pasalubong wishlists during travels up north). It's great just by itself on a spoon, but imagine it as part of a more elaborate (and indulgent) dessert: think cake, or cookies. Well, consider this your lucky day, as they've got sweet specials in partnership with Baguio's Everything Nice Café—and you can order it here in Manila!

These new desserts are made special with the famous ube jam of Good Shepherd:

Heads up, purple-yam fiends. Good Shepherd and Everything Nice Café are partnering up in line with the former's 70th anniversary this 2022, and they've come up with a short but sweet line of confections made with Good Shepherd's well-loved Mountain Maid Ube Jam. There's the Ube Cake (P280/small tub, P1,200/big tub), for starters—a layered treat of cake, cream, and Good Shepherd ube jam in a tupperware that's easy to store and serve. For a more nostalgic bite, try the Ube Crinkles (P220/jar of 10, P400/jar of 24) stuffed with ooey, gooey Good Shepherd ube jam for a nutty dose of purple yam in every pop.

If you happen to be in Baguio, the cake and crinkles are available at all Everything Nice Café branches and at the Good Shepherd Convent in the area; for us Manila folk, these can be ordered from their Cococart website. These desserts are available only for a limited time, so hop to it!

The best part? A portion of the sales go to Good Shepherd's beneficiaries (chosen by Good Shepherd's Sister Guadalupe Bautista, a.k.a. Sister Guada, herself)—children with cancer in Baguio, as well as Good Shepherd scholars around the Philippines. "Sister Guada and I have been friends since the pandemic and we both had something in common, which was to help the community and do good," Everything Nice Cafe's Robbie Pantaleon shares in an exchange with "So I invited her for lunch one day and proposed the idea especially because it's their 70th year anniversary. I told her, 'let's do something big this year,' and she gladly agreed with the approval of the other sisters in Good Shepherd."

For orders, visit Everything Nice Café's Cococart website. For more information, check out Everything Nice, Cake Shop and Café's Facebook page.
