The popular pasalubong if one is coming home from Japan includes different treats like boxes of Royce Chocolate, packs of KitKat in different Japan-exclusive flavors, and boxes of the famous Tokyo Banana. Hold up. You've never heard of that last one? Well, trust us when we say this treat is one of a kind. It's a popular banana-shaped sponge cake filled with banana-flavored custard cream that's an absolute must-try from the land of the rising sun. Now if you don't have a window to go over there and by them for yourself or friends and fam, we spotted it available to cop in Metro Manila.
Want to try Tokyo Banana but don't have the budget to book a roundtrip flight to Tokyo? Then we're here to tell you that the newly-opened Mitsukoshi Mall in Bonifacio Global City has the Tokyo Banana cakes in their supermarket!
Head on over to the lower floors and you'll see Mitsukoshi Fresh. You can buy a box of eight pieces for P1,050. Disclaimer: it's a looot more expensive than its local retail price. According to Tokyo Banana's official website, a box of eight pieces cost Y1,166 or around P476.63. If you buy it at the Mitsukoshi supermarket, it's at more than double its retail price in Japan. At least you didn't pay for airfare!
It's not going to be something you add to cart during a weekly grocery run on good conscience, that's for sure. Some may argue that it's too expensive for a box of Tokyo Banana, even if it is imported, but hey, who doesn't deserve a treat every once in a while? Especially if it'll give you a taste of a Japan trip.
Mitsukoshi is located at 8th Ave. Corner 36th St., Grand Central Park, North, Taguig, Metro Manila.
