Top 10 Pinoy Celebrity Twins
Richard and Raymond, Jinkee and Jannette, Cassie and Mavy and other dynamic duos that have invaded our Pinoy consciousness.
We're right smack in the middle of the month of Geminis, so what better way to celebrate than to make a list of the most popular twins that have fascinated Pinoy consciousness? SPOT.ph rounds up the duos who have become a part of Pinoy pop culture.
1. RICHARD & RAYMOND
As the youngest kids of actor Eddie Gutierrez and ex-starlet Annabelle Rama, the pair starred in many forgettable flicks as kids such as Lahing Pikutin (1987) and Kambal Tuko (1988). It used to be nearly impossible to tell them apart, but now Richard and Raymond have clearly shown that they're not identical in every way. Richard is one of the country's matinee idols, while Raymond is better known as a TV host.
2. JINKEE & JANETTE
The wife of boxing champ Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao has a twin who's still single: Janette Jamora. Though these two women may no longer share a last name, they are still mirror images of each other, as long as their constant makeovers keep in sync with each other. In fact, Janette has to keep explaining to Jinkee's fans that she's not Pacman's wife. Jinkee, it seems, has shared her good fortune with her twin.
3. JAJA & BOOM-BOOM (THE JABOOM TWINS)
Katrina (Jaja) and Kristine (Boom-Boom) Gonzales made waves by winning the Ponds Soft Skin Search. They later became TV hosts and supporting actresses. They were fun to watch in GMA-7's Encantadia. Jaja, however, ventured out on her own in ABS-CBN's The Wedding, which starred Anne Curtis. As a unit, they're always remembered for their Rejoice shampoo commercial. They still guest in talk shows and take on supporting or character roles from time to time.
4. CASSANDRA & MAVERICK
The children of Carmina Villaroel and Zoren Legaspi, they're one of the most popular kiddie endorsers around. These kids are probably so effective at convincing people to buy what they're selling that companies keep tapping them to promote their stuff. Their cute faces, to say the least, are irresistible.
5. FELIX & DOMINIC
Who would have thought that character actor Bembol Roco's sons would turn out to be such matinee idol materials. PEP.ph reports: "They both appeared as twins in TV series such as Super Inggo (2006), where they became suitors of teen star Empress Schuck, and Super Twins (2007), where both of them played the role of Camille Prats's friends. (In late 2007), the brothers went their own ways in choosing which career to pursue. While Dominic continues to improve on his acting skills, Felix became part of the all-male singing group called The Studs." Since then, the two have continued to hone their acting skills in TV shows and movies.
6. CHARLOTTE & CHARISSE
The Hermoso sisters got their pretty little feet into the showbiz door when they starred as the daughters of Lumen (January Isaac), the popular character in the Surf ads. They have since starred in GMA-7's soap opera Impostora and they continue to appear in TV shows.
7. NATHAN & GAMMY
Call them the Indie Film Twins. Nathan and Gammy Lopez starred as, well, twins in Krisis, a 2008 indie flick directed by Dave Cecilio. Prior to that Nathan made waves in Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros. It turns out that his brother Gammy is an equally gifted thespian.
8. ATASHA & ANDRES
The kids of Aga Muhlach and Charlene Gonzales are sought after endorsers. They're also Jollibee endorsers just like their dad. Plus, they're in demand for magazine covers and other photo ops. They can't help it that they're cute.
9. JOY & GAY (THE WEA TWINS)
Back in the 1980's, the Pobre sisters (Yes, that's their last name.) caused a sensation by being part of the group called The Wea Dancers, who were, of course, backed by the Wea Records. Go to Nostalgia Manila to get a glimpse of the sisters back in their heyday.
10. BRAD & GREG TURVEY
Brad and Greg had an Australian dad and a Filipina mom who had grown up in Australia. In 2002, Brad made a mark in a Penshoppe commercial that featured singer-actress Mandy Moore. It was such a hit that Brad decided to come to the Philippines and try his luck in showbiz. Greg soon followed suit. The two were part of the original cast of GMA-7's Nuts Entertainment. They went on to play supporting roles in shows like Encantadia (Brad) and Kahit Kailan (Greg). Of the two, Brad is more profile, dating the likes of Pops Fernandez and Nancy Castiglione. Strangely enough, it's difficult to find a publicly-available picture or video clip of the two together. Runner-up: Mark and Anthony, the twins who appeared on Kwarta o Kahon, as well as a cheesy Nature's Touch Tawas ad. We appreciate any information about them, as our Google and YouTube searches failed to yield any verified details about them. We're not even sure of their names, but we know they were twins and that they peddled tawas.
