(SPOT.ph) We didn’t win anything this year but the mere fact that seven films-including Lino Brocka’s classic Maynila sa mga Kuko ng Liwanag-were screened at the recently concluded Cannes Film Fest speaks volumes about the local film industry. And even without official merits, we have reason to feel proud. Erik Matti’s On The Job, starring Piolo Pascual, was picked up for distribution by Well Go USA Entertainment, while Lav Diaz’s Norte, Hangganan ng Kasaysayan, starring Sid Lucero, enjoyed a five-minute standing ovation.
With this renewed effort to produce more and more films that break from the usual loveydovey, feel-good formula, let’s take a look at how far we’ve already gone at the Cannes Film Fest. From the looks of it, another win could be next. Click on the image to see a larger version.

Note: It is said that Manuel Conde’s Genghis Khan was shown in Cannes but we could not find it in the official archives, thus it is not included in this timeline.
