Lav Diaz’s Norte, Hangganan ng Kasaysayan in list of The Guardian’s Top 50 Films of the Past Five Years
Chief film critic Peter Bradshaw only had praises for the film.
(SPOT.ph) Filipino filmmaker Lav Diaz’s Norte, Hangganan ng Kasaysayan is on The Guardian’s list of top 50 films of the demi-decade. The publication’s chief film critic Peter Bradshaw had this to say about the film: "From the modern Philippines comes this stunning, epic, and distinctively spiritual new version of Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment, about an innocent man taking the rap for a crime committed by someone else-and entering a state of grace denied to the real culprit."
The four hour-long film joins other memorable movies on the list, which includes Michael Haneke’s Amour, Michel Hazanavicius’s The Artist, Richard Linklater’s Boyhood, and Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel.
This isn’t the first time Norte and Lav Diaz have been recognized by Bradshaw. He also ranked the movie ninth in his list of top 10 films of 2014, and Diaz as third on his best directors list. Angeli Bayani, the lead actor of Norte, was also recognized as sixth on the list of best actresses of the year.
