Tom Cruise allegedly wiretapped Nicole Kidman, according to an HBO documentary
The Scientology documentary that has Hollywood talking
(SPOT.ph) The Church of Scientology has always been the subject of scrutiny and controversy, especially for those among Hollywood circles. Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief tackled the said controversy head on, premiering to a packed house at Sundance on Sunday (January 25).
According to the HBO documentary by Alex Gibney, Scientology wasn’t exactly happy with Tom Cruise’s marriage to Nicole Kidman because her father was a psychologist, a supposed "enemy" to the church. Cruise distanced himself from the church and in an effort to woo him back, the latter tried to "undermine" his relationship. The actor then allegedly hired a private investigator to tap Kidman’s phones, while the church worked to turn their children against her.
The documentary also claimed that Homeland actress Nazanin Boniadi was hired by the church to become Cruise’s new girlfriend after his marriage with Kidman failed. She was supposedly given a makeover as prep to meet and date Cruise. The ploy didn’t work out, she left the church, and became an actress.
The film is based on a 2013 book that focuses on how the religion is tied to Hollywood, particularly through members like Cruise and John Travolta. Whether you believe in its claims or you’re just really curious about it, there’s no doubt that it’s pretty interesting stuff. The documentary is slated to air March 16 on HBO.
