Grave of the Fireflies premiere date on Netflix
Starting September 16, Grave of the Fireflies will be available to watch on Netflix in over 190 countries, except Japan. To date, there are over 20 Studio Ghibli movies streaming on Netflix, excluding the U.S. and Japan. Films from the Japanese animation company first hit Netflix in 2020, right before lockdowns.
What is Grave of the Fireflies about?
Grave of the Fireflies is based on Japansese novelist Akiyuki Nosaka’s Naoki Prize-winning short story of the same name. Set in Kobe near the end of second World War, the film follows the horrific experiences of orphan siblings during a time of turmoil. Nosaka, having survived tragic losses during the 1945 bombing of Kobe, based the short story on his experiences.
