Netflix's Bridgerton Season 4 Has Started Filming

(SPOT.ph) Esteemed members of the Ton, we're elated to report that Season 4 of Bridgerton has officially started production. The Netflix drama dropped all episodes of Season 3 earlier this year and we know any update on the upcoming season is a sweet little treat while you wait.

Season 4 of Bridgerton has officially started production

Netflix made the announcement on their social media pages with photos of the upcoming season leading stars Luke Thompson and Yerin Ha, who are playing Benedict Bridgerton and Sophie Baek, respectively. Season 4 will delve into Benedict's love story, which is based on Julia Quinn's third Bridgerton novel, An Offer From a Gentleman. Unlike his younger and oldeer brothers, Beendict isn't too keen on marriage, until he meets the Lady in Silver at a ball.

The masked ball is a major moment in the upcoming season and with the grand event comes dancing. In an interview with Tudum, Thompson confirmed he and Ha have been getting into the swing of things to prepare for the ball scenes, "In fact, we had a dance rehearsal today. I’ve only stepped on Yerin’s toes once, which is good."

Dancing, even as practice, has helped both leading actors slip into their roles better. "The dancing is like an extension of their emotions, and a way for them to connect," Ha explained.

Sophie Beckett is now Sophie Baek

Australian-born Korean actress Ha, who was rumored to Sophie Beckett last month, also got a reel officially confirming reports that she's appearing as the Lady in Silver in Season 4.

Her character Sophie Beckett has since been renamed to Sophie Baek, a deliberate choice from Bridgerton showrunner Jess Brownell to better fit the Korean heritage of Ha. 

"A name is the first bit of identity that you share with the world, and that’s why changing a name can be so powerful," Ha said in an interview with Tudum. "To make Sophie’s name fit someone who looks like me is really empowering."

This wouldn't be the first time the series renamed a character to fit the heritage of an actor. Back in Season 2, Simone Ashley's casting as Kate Sheffield prompted a rename to Kate Sharma to reflect Ashley's Indian heritage.

Brownell asked Ha about Korean last names that begin with a B and landed on Baek. “It’s a really nice way for me to feel like the role is fit for me, rather than me having to fit a certain mold,” Ha said. “It’s amazing what it can do just in a psychological sense. So it means a lot that Jess did that for me.”

New actors on Bridgerton Season 4

Three new actors will join the cast for Season 4. Katie Leung, who played Cho Chang in the Harry Potter franchise, will portray the blunt Lady Araminta Gun, a twice-widowed woman with two daughters, who she's pressured to find matches for.

Los Angeles-based actress Michelle Mao will play Rosamund Li, Lady Araminta's determined eldest daughter who's fixed on the affections of Benedict Bridgerton.

Hong Kong actress Isabella Wei is set to play Posy Li, Rosamund's kinder younger sister. Though kind, her carefree manner of speaking often lands her in less than favorable circumstances.
