Watch the trailer for Brillante Mendoza's Cannes entry, Taklub
It premiered to rave reviews!
(SPOT.ph) In case you didn't hear the awesome movie news, director Brillante Mendoza has an entry in this year's Cannes Film Festival.
The film, entitled Taklub, tells the story of Typhoon Yolanda survivors as they struggle to come to terms with loss. It stars Nora Aunor alongside Julio Diaz, Lou Veloso, and Aaron Rivera.
Taklub premiered on Tuesday to a number of rave reviews from critics. Clarence Tsui of The Hollywood Reporter said it "could very well head onwards for a long festival run after its premiere at the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes." Tsui also commended the cast's "restrained performances [that] reveal post-trauma stress in a typhoon-swept town."
Maggie Lee of Variety wrote, "Shot in a no-frills documentary style that echoes its subjects’ deprivation, the film is at once intimate and detached in its dramatic economy, though the finale will leave many viewers saddened yet humbled."
Taklub is one of 19 entries competing for the Prix Un Certain Regard, which will help the winning film get distribution in France.
