Heneral Luna declared "highest-grossing Filipino historical film"
The movie is now on its fourth week!
(SPOT.ph) It's saddening when we see quality Filipino independent films get limited commercial runs in local theaters. We often resort to waiting for special screenings—sometimes, even in vain. At the rate Heneral Luna is going, however, it may just usher in a renewed love for quality Pinoy films in theaters.
In a Facebook post by producer Joji Villanueva Alonso, she shared that the film has made P172.3 million and counting, and she declared it the "highest grossing [Filipino] historical film." The movie, which is now on its fourth week, still needs about P27.6 million to reach the "breakeven point of P200 million."
The earnings will be used for Artikulo Uno Productions' next planned project: A biopic on Gregorio Del Pilar (played by Paulo Avelino in Heneral Luna). The producers also need an additional U.S. $2 million for the movie's campaign at the upcoming Oscars.
The film is still screening in 112 theaters nationwide.
