Lav Diaz's Hele sa Hiwagang Hapis gets March 26 release date
Are you ready for the Hele Challenge?
(SPOT.ph) Many of us have dedicated several hours to binge-watching our favorite TV shows, but it's probably a different story when we're away from the comfort of our beds. Still, the folks behind the critically acclaimed Hele sa Hiwagang Hapis beg to differ.
Star Cinema is daring avid moviegoers to take on the Hele Challenge: to sit in a local theater and watch Lav Diaz's eight-hour historical epic. After winning the Silver Bear from the prestigious Berlin Film Festival, the film is finally coming home and hitting cinemas on March 26.
Ticket prices and a list of cinemas have yet to be announced, but you just can't say no to a film helmed by Diaz and stars Piolo Pascual, John Lloyd Cruz, Alessandra de Rossi, Cherie Gil, and more. More than its powerhouse cast, though, Hele is a fascinating retelling of the Philippine revolution and the search for Andres Bonifacio's body.
If that's not enough reason for you, Meryl Streep (who headed the Berlinale jury) had nothing but praises for the film. "She was telling me that while watching the film, she thought of the old days of watching cinema where they had patience...time. Ngayon daw nagmamadali na lahat," said Diaz in a previous interview. "She said that it was very, very nostalgic and sad. She loved the film. And she wants to watch it again in the U.S."
