Ang Babaeng Humayo gets September release date
You're going to see it in cinemas very soon!
(SPOT.ph) After Lav Diaz's triumphant win at the recent Venice Film Festival, could the Academy Awards be next?
Film producer Ronald Arguelles confirmed to Interaksyon's Edwin Sallan that Ang Babaeng Humayo (The Woman Who Left) will open in Philippine cinemas on September 23, but a list of theaters have yet to be announced.
The release date will make the film eligible for nomination in the Academy Awards in 2017; any local movie vying for the coveted Best Foreign Language Film must have a commercial theatrical run for at least a week within October 2015 and September 2016.
The four-hour film stars Charo Santos-Concio as Horacia, a woman who is released from prison after being wrongfully convicted for 30 years. Upon her release, she vows revenge on her former lover who framed her. It also stars John Lloyd Cruz, Michael de Mesa, Shamaine Buencamino, Nonie Buencamino, and Cacai Bautista.
Earlier, the Film Academy of the Philippines announced nine other films that are also being considered as the country's official entry to the Oscars. The list includes Erik Matti's Honor Thy Father, Brillante Mendoza's Ma' Rosa, and Diaz's other film, Hele Sa Hiwagang Hapis.
